Strength by Carrie Butler, Book 1 in Mark of Nexus

When college student Rena Collins finds herself nose-to-chest with the campus outcast, her rumor-laced notions are shattered. Handsome, considerate, and seemingly sane, Wallace Blake doesn’t look like he spends his nights alone, screaming and banging on the walls of his dorm room. Hell, he doesn’t look like he spends his nights alone, period.

Too curious for her own good, Rena vows to uncover the truth behind Wallace’s madman reputation--and how two seconds of contact had left her with bruises. Of course, there are a few setbacks along the way: guilt, admiration, feelings of the warm and fuzzy variety…

Not to mention the unwanted attention of Wallace's powerful, supernaturally-gifted family.

They’re a bloodline divided by opposing ideals, two soon-to-be warring factions that live in secret among us. When Rena ends up caught in their crossfire, Wallace has no choice but to save her by using his powers. Now they’re really in trouble. With war on the horizon and Rena’s life in the balance, he needs to put some distance between them. But Rena won’t let go. If fighting is what it takes to prove her own strength and keep Wallace in her life, then that’s what she’ll do--even if it means risking a whole lot more than her heart.

My Review:

First, I would like to thank the author, Carrie Butler for the opportunity to do an ARC review on her novel!

Ok, now to the review, I just loved this book! It had great pacing, it didn't feel like it was dragging, which I hate! I loved the character of Wallace *swoon*, I imagined him to look like "The Rock", huge muscles and towering. When I started to read this book, I totally forgot that it was a paranormal romance story, then when Wallace mentions that he's a Dynari to Rena, I was like " oh right, this is a PARANORMAL romance", which I think is a good thing, the only thing that really hinted to him being "different" was that he was so strong he left bruises on Rena. There were also twists I didn't see coming, which I won't mention what they were, but definitely had me thinking WTF. This book is a must read for anyone who likes paranormal romance and just plain romance, since I thought the paranormal element wasn't too overwhelming.

Descendant by L.J. Amodeo

A forbidden love, a sacred bloodline, and a powerful gift, plagues the last remaining descendant with an unspeakable burden and an unforgivable fate. Seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Anne Morgan is no stranger to the paranormal world. Haunted by voices and visions for most of her young life, she begins to question her sanity as a teen, setting her apart as an outcast in school. In quatrains and sacred manuscripts, a Chosen One is prophesied, yet Elizabeth does not know she is the descendant of the holiest woman who ever walked the earth. The whispers and cries, meant for her mind only, are those of lost souls pleading to be liberated by the true holder of the key. In her senior year of high school, Elizabeth meets two new strangers, both who know her secret and who turn her world upside down. Meanwhile, her only friend Freddie, loyal, devoted and secretly in love with her, stands quietly in the shadows of her life as she begins to unfold the mystery of who she is destined to become

My Review:

"Received a copy from the author*

I found parts of the story to be slow at times, but overall it was an interesting read and I'm looking forward for the next instalment!
The story about a girl named Beth who hears voices in her head. At first she thinks she is crazy but as the book progresses you find out that she is hearing voices from good and bad spirits. There is a love interest for the protagonist, and there is a twist about who he really is. The ending was pretty shocking, made you want more!

Catching on Fire Review - Sue Knotts

*Received a free copy through Goodreads*

Visions of a horrific, dystopian future have been tattooed on Rachel's brain for as long as she can remember. She believes the strange symbols attached to those visions are the key to avoiding that future. When she discovers someone else shares the same visions, she dedicates herself to finding other seers and unlocking the mystery of the symbols. Her quest grows in urgency as the present appears to increasingly resemble the path to the future she fears. On her quest Rachel discovers that answers -- and love -- are elusive. And people are not always as they appear. Blurring the line between reality and fiction, this novel combines elements of romance, mystery, suspense, and science fiction in a way that should appeal to a wide variety of readers. Suitable for teens as well as adult readers.

My Review:

This book is not the usual type that I go for, but I did enjoy reading it, and I am looking forward to the follow-up!Catching on Fire starts out with Rachel and her bff being rescued by Jim after 2 guys followed them out of the bar. Rachel offers Jim a bite to eat at a local burger joint, which he accepts, after they eat Rachel takes out her pad of paper to take down Jim info when he notices her doodles, and he then shows her his drawings, which are almost identical. Rachel and Jim want to see if there are others out there who also see the glyphs (which what they start calling the drawings). I won't divulge any more about the book, since I don't want to give anything away, but I recommend this to any type of reader, no matter what genre of book you tend to enjoy!
